Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott was among the more than 600 participants of “Run for Life,” which was organized by Sydney Adventist Hospital, commonly referred to as “SAN.”
Abbott officially started the first of a series of races on November 13, and competed with SAN Foundation managing director, Barbara Ward, and the hospital’s CEO Phil Currie. Federal Member of Parliament, MP, Paul Fletcher and State MP Jonathan O’Dea also took part in the event, which included a 10-kilometer run, a 5-kilometer run and a 5-kilometer walk.
The annual run raised nearly $80,000 for the hospital’s Integrated Cancer Center and additional services for cancer patients.
The 5K walk was especially enjoyed by families, many of whom participated for loved ones affected by cancer. Several SAN doctors and nurses also participated in the races.
