Editor’s Note: Since May of 2019, the Adventist Church members in Burundi have endured ongoing persecution from the countries government. On October 24, the president of the Burundi Union Mission, pastor Lamec Barishinga, was arrested. This arrest was part of an escalating series of threats and attacks on the Seventh-day Adventist Church by the government of Burundi. For further reading about the situation of our Adventist brother and sisters in Burundi, please visit the Pray for Burundi website.
Below is a letter to the Adventist Church in Burundi from Seventh-day World Church President, Ted N.C. Wilson
Dear Burundi Brothers and Sisters,
May God sustain you in the setting of religious, civil, and health challenges. With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to bear down on people and nations around the world, let us look to the Master Physician for strength and healing. I hope you are all well through the grace of the Lord. Again, God is calling you to be an anchor of stability and a pillar of hope during these troubled times around the world. Praise God for your steadfast allegiance to Him and His Holy Word and the Spirit of Prophecy. May your evangelistic testimony for the Lord be a tremendous encouragement to those around you. Please know that I have prayed for you and people are lifting you up in prayer. Stay close to the Lord and your Bibles as you pray earnestly for the Lord’s guidance in your lives and in Burundi. Pray for your families, your work opportunities, your witnessing opportunities, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Burundi, and the government leaders in Burundi that they will be open to the leading of God’s spirit in the decisions that they make. The Bible tells us to pray for the civic leaders…….they need God’s guidance……the leaders all over the world.
Stay strong in the Lord as you allow the Holy Spirit to guide your evangelistic outreach even amidst all the challenges you face so that Total Member Involvement will be real in your lives every day. God will use you mightily in Burundi. Let us pray for each other around the world in this wonderful Seventh-day Adventist family of about 22 million members. I will pray for you, your church leaders, your local fields, and the Burundi Union directed by our union president, Pastor Lamec Barashinga. May God give him and all of you spiritual sustenance in your special outreach for God as we approach Christ’s soon coming.
May the following Bible text be of encouragement to you today and always—–Jeremiah 6:16—-“Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls…..”
Be inspired with the instruction from the Spirit of Prophecy in the book of “Christian Service,” page 89, by Ellen White as you participate in Total Member Involvement: “Heavenly angels have long been waiting for human agents—the members of the church—to cooperate with them in the great work to be done. They are waiting for you.”
May God bless your special walk with Him during these last days of earth’s history as we give testimony to those around us of our love for Christ, His righteousness, and His saving power. God will guide your life today as you submit to His leading in all you do. Remember, you are loved and appreciated by your world church family. God will continue to make you a great witness for Him as we approach Christ’s soon coming. The theme for our 2021 General Conference Session is “JESUS IS COMING! GET INVOLVED!” May that be your experience each and every day during these momentous times.
With kind Christian regards and sincerely yours,
Ted N C Wilson
