Spring Meeting to be held virtually amid coronavirus restrictions

The rapid movement of the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has forced Seventh-day Adventist World Church leadership to make adjustments as to how Church business is conducted, especially with recently imposed restrictions on travel, gathering size, and social distancing.

As we have previously reported, the General Conference Session formerly scheduled to take place July 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana, has been rescheduled until May 2021 due to safety concerns with the number of delegates traveling from around the world to attend Session and current local restrictions on large gatherings.

Also affected by the pandemic is Spring Meeting, one of two annual gatherings of the Adventist Church’s Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is the second-highest governing body of the Seventh-day Adventist Church after the General Conference Session, which occurs every five years. In between Sessions, the Executive Committee has the authority to act on behalf of the General Conference in Session.

According to working policy, it is necessary to hold Spring Meeting every year to receive audited financial reports from the General Conference and to transact regular Executive Committee business. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Spring Meeting will be held remotely April 14 and 15 from 6 am to 11 am Eastern Standard Time. Business sessions will be live streamed for those who wish to view the live proceedings here. Adventist News Network will continue to bring you up-to-date information from the meetings as they occur next week.
