Nurse defeats COVID-19, returns to work

After testing positive for COVID-19, Roxana Martinez, a clinical nurse at the Adventist Sanatorium of Plata (SAP) in Argentina strictly quarantined. Although she didn’t show symptoms, she continued hydrotherapy treatments at home and recovered within one week. Martinez is the second patient to recover from the coronavirus in Libertador San Martín, Entre Ríos.

When Martinez returned to work on May 7, she didn’t expect the lavish welcome from her hospital colleagues! Doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, her teammates in this unprecedented crisis, surrounded Martinez and showered her with applause, balloons, messages, posters and words of welcome. They formed a welcoming line as she entered the building.

A local news outlet learned of Martinez’s story through social media and was on hand to capture the touching moment.

Impact on local media

The newspaper El Entre Ríos echoed the news and shared the publication of Martinez’s return with the title: “With an emotional welcome, the nurse returned to her duties after recovering from the coronavirus.”

Undoubtedly, the feelings expressed that a team member recovered from a disease that has already claimed the lives of many people in the country and the world, is a symbol of how fragile we are. The newspaper article summed it up nicely: “In these moments, friendship, companionship, and faith in God are keys to living day by day.”

Sanatorium care

It should be noted that after the government gave authorization for medical care to be expanded in the context of the pandemic, care is being carried out in the SAP in the normal way in the different medical services.

Two well-defined areas of care have been arranged:

An outpatient respiratory / COVID patients sector is located adjacent to the reception area. In addition, there is an exclusive telephone line (0343 4200333) to attend people with respiratory symptoms or who have been in contact with cases of COVID-19. There is also a non-respiratory / COVID pathology care area.

The Sanatorium highlights that there are trained personnel at both authorized entrances, the main door and the Emergency room, which include the clinical (questionnaire, temperature taking, eventual smell test) and epidemiological (questionnaire) aspects for the admission of patients and family members.
