Hong Kong Adventist Hospital helps set up dental clinic in Laos

Government officials join the opening ceremony.[Northern Asia-Pacific Division]

Late last year, a dental clinic sponsored by the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital (HKAH) began its operation in Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Several high-ranking government officials, including the ones overseeing religious affairs, attended the opening ceremony.

Dr. Chen Shen Huang of HKAH was responsible for bringing the donated equipment to Laos and oversaw the establishment of the dental clinic. The clinic now has advanced 3D dental imaging technology, the first in the country.

Laos is a Marxist socialist republic. Adventist missionaries entered the country in the 1960s but had to leave due to the outbreak of the Indochina War. Thirty years later, the Adventist Church resumed her work in the country. By the end of 2017, Laos Adventist Mission under the Southeast Asia Union Mission of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division established 20 churches and meeting places with a membership of 2,000.

The major religion in Laos is Buddhism. The Adventist Church hopes to use the dental clinic to bring the love of Christ to the Lao people.
