ADRA is meeting the medical needs of isolated communities along the Amazon River in Brazil. Along with local partners, ADRA Brazil restarted a medical launch project known as Luzeiro, or “light bearer” in Portuguese. Once a medical mission project run by Seventh-day Adventist pioneers Leo and Jessie Halliwell, ADRA’s new boats are continuing their tradition of service. The ADRA boats travel up and down the Amazon carrying an ADRA nurse to remote villages that otherwise would have little access to medical services. ADRA also improved health and sanitation in several villages with the installation of new toilets.
